When it comes to family time, one of our long-time favorites has always been a Jeep road trip. Long or short, a road trip has a way of bringing us together and creating memories, both wonderful and hilarious, that we remember fondly and love to look back on. Whether it’s a trip on the highway or on rugged trails, our goal is always to have the most fun and quality time possible. Of course, being well-prepared is a key component to make sure everyone stays smiling and things go as planned. Over the years, we’ve compiled a list of tried and true Jeep road trip essentials that keep things running smoothly no matter what the journey entails.
If we’re heading to the trails, bringing proper recovery gear is a non-negotiable for our family. We like to pack a recovery kit with a tow strap, shackles, a jack, and a portable air compressor. Having these on hand brings us peace of mind that we’ll be able to help ourselves or anyone we come across who needs a hand.
Regardless of where we’re heading, safety gear is always along for the ride. We make sure to have extra first aid supplies, including bandages, antiseptics, and any medications we might need on the road.
We always make sure to have accessories that enhance our Jeep for a road trip. A set of sturdy floor mats is a must to handle the dirt and sand that come with outdoor adventures. We’ve also learned that having a sunshade or Jeep window covers can make a huge difference when the sun is at its peak. We like to have durable seat covers that are comfortable and easy to clean. Our family’s Wild Doors let you effortlessly adapt your doors to every stage of the road trip, whether you want to be cruising on the highway with a full door, or parked and soaking in the sunset with a fully-open door. These little additions make a huge difference in comfort and convenience.
When it comes to clothing, layers are the name of the game. Our family is always prepared for whatever weather may come our way, especially on extended Jeep trips where conditions can change quickly. We pack a variety of clothing, including lightweight, moisture-wicking clothes for warm weather and heavier jackets and gear for cooler temperatures. A good pair of hiking boots or off-road shoes are essential, especially for impromptu stops for a hike or a scenic viewpoint.
Of course, what would a road trip be without some good snacks! We always pack up a variety of snacks, from protein bars and trail mix to fruit and granola. Having a high-quality cooler or portable fridge makes it easy to pack fresh food like sandwiches and wraps that are ready to go when we need them. If we’re planning on camping overnight, we make sure to have a camp stove or portable grill for cooking up meals on the go.
Through our travels, we have definitely found that being prepared helps us to stay not only more comfortable, but safer and ready for adventure. Our list of Jeep road trip essentials help our family take on whatever a road trip throws our way and make the best memories while doing so!
